Life Changing Decisions

There comes a time in life when you have to sit back and make life changing decisions even though the outcome is very questionable. Today was one of those days for me. It has been 7 weeks since I was laid off from my job. After many interviews and searching, I am still unemployed. The severence pay has ran out and unemployment isn't covering the bills. On that note, we gave our 30 day notice to move out of the house we are in. We have also decided to down size drastically since we don't know where we are going to be living in a months time.

Most houses here in Key West are too expensive with rent starting at $1200 a month for a shoebox. My unemployment and hubby's check won't cover that.

So it is time to start packing and planning for a huge moving sale. When I think about it this is kinda like divorcing yourself and getting rid of the stuff you have collected over the years. Stay tuned for the new adventure "My Life".

Time Goes By............

Wow its been awhile since I posted. Time sure does go fast when you have nothing to do.

Since I last posted I have lost my job and become a lazy a$$. No really! It's funny how fast you fall into a routine, now adays my days go something like this. Get up, feed the zoo, search help wanted ads, send resumes, do yard work, swim in the pool, get hubby off to work, swim in the pool some more, watch tv, muster up the energy to make dinner, wait for hubby to get home, then go to bed and start it all over again the next day.

Actually I have been doing something. I've been trying to figure out my life! Not an easy task since I have no clue what I am supposed to be doing. I do know that I live in a VERY expensive place and very soon won't be able to afford the rent I pay each month for this shoebox.

We have been searching for a motorcoach to lease purchase so that my dream of traveling the country when I am 50 comes true. Only problem is, havent found the perfect one yet! Stay tuned.............

Things Always Happen In Three's!

Sorry I haven't blogged in a week but after you read this blog you will understand why.

It all began last Wednesday with the call that my husband's grandfather at the age of 92 was passing away. Thus began the rush to clean the house, wash clothes and find someone to watch the zoo while we rushed to Ft. Myers. With the help of my very dear friend "Nick" who graciously agreed to stay indefinately with the critters, we rushed to Ft. Myers. We then began a four day goodbye session. If you've never watched anyone die, I recommend you don't start now, because it is not a pleasant experience. Being so close to mothers day was not helping matters either. That is another whole story in itself. Well on Sunday Granddad passed on.

Hubby and I then rushed home because my crittersitter was about at the end of his rope.

After unpacking, getting everyone settled again (boy were they glad to see us!) it seemed life might get back to normal.

NOPE not a chance, the next morning I found out that someone had broken into my truck the previous night. Luckily nothing but alcohol was stolen and nothing was broken. Good news there, BUT after I got to work, I was called into the CEO's office and permantly laid off. Seems while I was away someone decided my position wasn't that important anymore and with the economy the way it is, me and 6 other people were let go.

So now I live in the most expensive place in the US and have no job. Wonder how long it will take to get a new one? Stay tuned.................

Cinco de Mayo Day!

Well another excuse to party in Key West! This is actually a non official holiday that us locals love to celebrate. Everyone wears Sombrero's and parties till the sun comes up! Since I have to work tomorrow, I will be eating dinner at the best mexican restaurant on the island, Salsa Loca http://salsalocakeywest.com/ where the food is great and the sangria never runs out! Then I will head over to Cowboy Bills for a mexican party cowboy style. Hopefully I will get some good pictures!

Happy Cinco de Mayo Day! Which is english means the 5th of May!

More Cruise Ships!

Well many thanks goes out to Mexico. It seems ALL cruise lines have cancelled their trips to that lovely destination because of the Swine Flu and added Key West as the port of call. What this means is we get twice as many tourist here on the island. Is this good or bad? Hmmmmm let me get back to you on that!

Today In Key West

Today in Key West, nothing happened or should I say, it hasn't happened yet. The sun is shining, it's 81 degrees and breezy. Water is still alittle too cold to venture into and its too rough for boating.
So on that note, lets talk about my favorite up and coming country singer "Dave Aaron". Dave has lived in key west most of his life and has been trying forever to make it into the big world of a country music star. Check out his website at http://www.daveaaronmusic.com/. Let me know what you think.

Birthday Weekend

The weekend is over and I survived the partying, barely! Friday was "Girls Gone Wild Happy Hour" at the Sports Page Bar & Grill. Nice locals place to hang out not to mention drinks and ALL appetizers are half price from 5 - 7pm. Then it was on to Cowboy Bill's Reloaded. My favorite bartender Lacy fixed me up with Lacy's Special Place Shots all evening. Oh and did I mention there was a bachalor party going on? Needless to say me and my friends crashed it!

On Saturday it was the famous Duval Street Bed Races. If you've never witnessed them, its a great time. Teams build makeshift beds out of required parts and foot race them down Duval Street (hoping they will stay together!) most don't.

My new kitty (Miss Cheyenne) is now a week old and I finally gaining weight. She has become VERY active too! Here is her new picture.

I also got a good picture of "Ralph" the Rooster.

The Vandenberg Arrives

For those of you that don't know, Key West has been trying for years to acquire an old navel ship (The Vandenberg) so that they can sink it and make another artifical reef. Well yesterday after many years in the works, the ship arrived. All I can say is what a big piece of rust she is too! About 200 people showed up on the dock to watch her be towed in. What an impressive site it was, especially with the carribean music playing in the background. For the next month she will under go more repairs in preparation to be sunk 6 miles off the island in 140 feet of water. If you would like to learn more about this adventure and see more pictures of the ship, please follow the following links: (Pictures of docking) http://images.keysnews.com/galleries/news/VAN%20GAL/index.htm
(Information about the ship) http://www.miamiherald.com/news/florida-keys/story/1013131.html

Stay tuned for more information on the sinking. Until then she sits at the dock.

New Pet

One of my fellow island dwellers decided to give me an early birthday present on my front steps. Meet "Cheyenne" as my husband has so named her. She is approximately 12 weeks old and full of energy. Now the fun part of learning how to care for a kitten. I guess the first stop is the vets office. YIPPY!

It all begins now!

Well here goes............my first official blog! I figure if others can do it I can too. Maybe this will help friends and family stay in touch more. Now for the important things, first off, my birthday is this Friday. My life is officially half over at that point if I live past 80. More on this later. Second, for those that don't know me too good, I have officially become a pet freak! I mean who else do you know that has a turtle, 3 goldfish, a pet rooster name "Ralph", a new kitten, two wonderful dogs, and nine yes NINE birds?
